Development of automation of differential leukocyte counts by use of cytochemistry.

چکیده

Development of automation in cytochemistry is reviewed. A variety of disciplines had to be merged to accomplish the following. Samples of anticoagulated whole blood are processed chemically in a continuous-flow system having precise proportioning of reagents and exact time sequences for reactions. While red blood cells are lysed, color contrast is developed in specific white blood cells. These are counted and differentiated by their light absorption and light scattering characteristics, typically at a rate of 500-2000per second, in an automatic electro-optical device through which the cell suspension flows. The procedure is highly reproducible because it relies on physical constants rather than human judgment and because greater replication of sample is possible in the same time.

The Difference in Initial Leukocyte Count, Bone Marrow Blast Cell Count and CD 34 Expression in Patients with Acute Myeloid Leukemia with and without NPM1 gene Mutation

Background: Mutation in NPM1 gene has been reported to be the most common genetic mutation in de novo acute myeloid leukemia (AML). AML with NPM1 gene mutation usually presents with higher initial leukocyte and blast cell counts and negative CD34 expression. We aimed to investigate the difference of initial leukocyte counts, bone marrow blast cell counts and expression of CD34 among patients wi...

Comparison of Venous and Capillary Differential Leukocyte Counts Using a Standard Hematology Analyzer and a Novel Microfluidic Impedance Cytometer

Capillary blood sampling has been identified as a potentially suitable technique for use in diagnostic testing of the full blood count (FBC) at the point-of-care (POC), for which a recent need has been highlighted. In this study we assess the accuracy of capillary blood counts and evaluate the potential of a miniaturized cytometer developed for POC testing. Differential leukocyte counts in the ...

Diagnosis Of Urinary Tract Infection Using Standard Urinalysis Or Hemocytometer Leukocyte Count

Background and Objective: This study was undertaken to assess the ability of standard urinalysis (UA) and hemocytometer white blood cell (WBC) counts for the diagnosis of urinary tract infection (UTI) in patients with urinary symptoms. Materials and Methods: A total of 600 patients with symptoms of urina...

[Epidemiological study on association of periodontal disease and total and differential leukocyte counts].

Periodontal disease is defined as inflammation that is caused by bacteria in dental plaque. This disease is liable to be a factor contributing to the high leukocyte count over an extended period. Furthermore, a number of prospective epidemiologic studies have shown that the leukocyte count is a good predictor of ischemic heart disease (IHD). However there have been few epidemiological studies o...
